  What are you doing?

  一、Teaching objectives:

  1.Can listen、say、read and write the phrases: drawing pictures, doing the dishes, cooking dinner, reading a book,answering the phone.

  2.Can ask and answer: What are you doing? I am doing the dishes/...

  3.Can chant “let's chant” and sing the song “What are you doing?”

  二、Teaching key points and difficult points:

  Key points:

  1.Can master -ing form of the five verb phrases in Unit 4.

  2.Understand the main sentences: What are you doing? and answer: I am doing the dishes/...

  Difficult points:

  The -ing form and pronunciation of the five verb phrases.

  三、Teaching aids:

  1.The cards and pictures of the new phrases.

  2.The toy phone, dishes and so on.

  3.Tape and recorder.

  四.Teaching design:

  Step 1. Greetings:

  T: Hello, boys and girls. How are you today?

  S: I'm fine, thank you. And you?

  T: I'm very well, thanks. And I'm very happy now.

  Let's sing a song, ok?

  Step 2. Warm up:

  1.T: Good. Boys and girls, stand up. Ready? Go.

  (Sing the song: What are you doing?)

  (歌曲演唱时,教师与学生一起配以生动形象的动作,活跃课堂气氛,同时也为新课的教学作铺垫。)

  2.T:I’m very helpful.I can do many things at home.For example,I

  can sweep the floor.I can cook the meals.What can you do?

  Ss:I can water the flowers/empty the trash.

  (把所学的知识进行整合,通过师生的互动,以对话的形式呈现出来。)

  Step 3: Presentation:

  1.T:Look!What’s this?

  Ss:It's a book.

  T:Oh,it’s a picture book.Do you want to read the book?(Send the book to the Ss one by one.Then the T read a book.)Look.I’m reading a book.What are you doing?(The student who takes the book answer.)

  S:I’m reading a book too.(Ask two or three students with the same way.)

  The teachet show the card“reading a book”.

  2.Look,this picture is so beautiful.Can you draw pictures?Good.

  Draw on your paper,please.(At the same time,T draws on the paper.)

  T:Now,I’m drawing an apple.What are you drawing?

  Ss:I’m drawing a house/a tiger/a tree…

  Teach the phrase“drawing pictures”.

  3.Show a plate,and say:Boys and girls,can you do the dishes?

  S:Yes.

  Get the Ss to do the action and ask:What are you doing?

  S:I’m doing the dishes.

  (While the students answer,the teacher write down the sentence on the board.)

  4.T:What am I doing?Oh,I’m cooking dinner.

  Can you cook dinner?

  Ss act and T asks:What is he doing?

  S:He is cooking dinner.

  (Write the sentence“What is he/she doing? He/She is……”on the board.)

  5.Suddenly, a phone rings.

  T: (With a toy phone on the hands.) Oh ! The phone is ringing. Can you answer the phone?

  Ss: Yes. (Give one student the phone.)

  T: (The sound stop. The teacher take another phone.) Hello. This is Miss Chen. What are you doing?

  S: I'm answering the phone.

  T: Very good. Boys and girls, can you answer the phone? Please do the action. (The students do it.)

  T: Boys and girls, what are you doing?

  Ss: I'm answering the phone.(Write down on the blackboard.)

  6.Play a game: Teacher say the verb phrases, eg: do the dishes, the students say the -ing form at once: doing the dishes. (Then do it in groups and check .)

  Step4:Practice

  1.Open the book turn to page 46. Listen to the tape and read together.

  1. Play a game:Each student takes out a piece of paper,then wirte down sth. on the paper.(for example:name/doint sth./where)

  Then put it in the different box.Invite some students come to the front and draw the paper from the boxes and make a new sentence.

  eg.××is cooking dinner in the study.

  ××is drawing pictures in the bedroom.

  (将所学知识融入孩子们乐意玩的活动中,符合学生的心理特点、年龄特征和本堂课的具体教学内容,降低了语言点的难度,增强了学生的学习兴趣和主动性。)

  Say a chant:

  drawing pictures, drawing pictures,

  doing the dishes, doing the dishes,

  cooking dinner, cooking dinner,

  reading a book, reading a book,

  answering the phone, answering the phone.

  2. Task:Suppose today is Sunday.A friend will come to your home,please make a dialogue.Try to use the sentences on the board.

  Give 5 minutes to prepare the dialogue.Then invite some groups show their dialogue.

  Blackboard design:

  Unit Four What are you doing?

  What is she/he doing?

  reading a book.

  I’m drawing pictures.

  She/He is doing the dishes.

  cooking dinner.

  answering the phone.
